Back in July, we were delighted to have Aric Chen, curator of design and architecture at the upcoming M+ Museum, talk about looking at Hong Kong through its iconic neon signs. However, due to the typhoon 8 signal being hoisted that evening, we had to take a rain check. We are happy to welcome Aric back in December to talk about one of the richest forms of the city's visual culture.
Whether seen as graphic design and typography, or through cinema and visual art--Hong Kong's neon signs have long defined its urban landscape. Through NEONSIGNS.HK, the online exhibition mounted by M+, Aric will tell the story of neon in the city, and its current decline due to LED technologies and other factors.
