Often used to reflect a painter's pursuit of an ideal world, blue-and-green landscape painting is one of the oldest genres in the history of traditional Chinese painting. With the opening of Ink and Wood: Modern Chinese Paintings in the Scholar's Studio, we are happy to have contemporary ink artist Ms. Barbara Choi as speaker of the October edition of Liang Yi Talks. Her lecture will introduce the tradition of blue-and-green landscape painting; the metaphorical implications of the colours blue and green; and how Barbara finds new possibilities in creating works of the genre.

Barbara received her B.A. and M.F.A. from the Chinese University of Hong Kong majoring in Chinese delineative painting (gongbi). Her recent works focusses on themes inspired by Hong Kong, fussing together myths and legends; landscape of Hong Kong; and traditional painting techniques to create a cityscape in between fantasy and the reality. Barbara has held solo exhibitions and participated in local and overseas group exhibitions. Her works are collected by the Hong Kong Museum of Art as well as local and international private and public institutions.
