Operatic Heights: A Tribute to Mei Lanfang

6th August – 2nd December, 2025

In honour of the 130th anniversary of one of the greatest vocal artists of modern China, Liang Yi Museum is delighted to present Operatic Heights: A Tribute to Mei Lanfang. Curated by Dr. Fu Shaoxing - assistant professor at the Beijing Institute of Fashion Technology and one of the first graduates of the joint Liang Yi Museum and Tsinghua University internship programme - the exhibition reinterprets Peking Opera’s legacy through avant-garde wearable art.

Featuring over 30 pieces (including three large-scale installations), Fu explores Peking Opera’s iconic aesthetics through modern craftsmanship, combining traditional techniques such as metal cloisonné and gemstone inlay with cutting-edge technology such as 3D printing. The objects on display are inspired not only by the beauty of traditional Chinese opera, but also inspired by Fu’s formative internship at Liang Yi Museum, where he studied the permanent silver collection of the museum.

This exhibition has previously been shown in Beijing, but marks the first time it has been shown outside of mainland China.
