Netsuke are small carvings used as stoppers to prevent items hanging from the obi (sash) of the Japanese traditional kimono from falling down. In this lecture, Robert Fleischel, an experienced collector of antique netsuke and sagemono, will explain the origin of netsuke art and its development. He will also discuss how Chinese legends inspired the design and style of netsuke with a demonstration of few precious netsuke carved by the most famous artists.
