Our April edition of Liang Yi Talks will be given by Dr. Raymond Tang, Curator of Chinese Antiquities at the Hong Kong Museum of Art. He will delve into the minds of the educated literati class of ancient China, exploring how they projected their lifestyles and social status through carefully selected everyday objects. Everyday objects collected by the literati were first and foremost acquired because of their practicality. However, they were also sought after due to their symbolic significance and connection to the natural world. The literati believed that the virtues exemplified in such objects would also be transferred to them.
